A BLESSING IN DISGUISE AND A NUDGE WE NEEDED |

The so called UNSC resolution 1907 (2009) that took 34 minutes to impose sanctions against Eritrea is nothing less than a continuation of a consistent pattern (since 1950) and a misguided as well as selfish US Foreign Policies designed to control the Horn of Africa, the Rea Sea and the Middle East by any means necessary. At a time of global recession, credit crunch and high unemployment when people worldwide are preoccupied with the current economic climate for the UNSC to be used as a tool by the US to pursue its selfish and misguided foreign policies are a disgrace and a crime against humanity. Likewise for the AU to be manipulated by the minority regime in Ethiopia in calling for Sanctions to be applied against Eritrea using fabricated evidences and unsubstantiated accusations that Eritrea supports the rebels in Somalia shows the level of corruption and lack of basic human decency, ethics and African Culture in the Headquarters of the AU. Thanks to the US and successive Ethiopian regimes continuous interferences and manipulations, these organisations (UN and AU) have completely lost credibility and respect. These two countries have repeatedly abused their privileges as host countries and are solely responsible for these organisations' current state of weaknesses and lack of integrity, credibility and respect from the ordinary peoples in all the member countries. The aforementioned plots and intrigues by the US are obviously meant to intimidate the Eritrean government and people and force them into submission but the effects of these shameful sanctions and threats have been exactly the opposite. After a very long time, the vast majority of Eritreans in Diaspora who like everyone else have been preoccupied with the current global economic climate are more united at present by a common cause than ever before. We are effectively mobilised to challenge and peacefully demonstrate against these shameful sanctions in a well coordinated and planned manner. Peaceful demonstrations and rallies have been organised worldwide for the 22 of February 2010. In London, extra coaches have been sourced as the number of those who wish to make the long Journey to Geneva to participate in the demonstration is significantly higher than expected. For the first time since the referendum in 1993 and the conflict with Ethiopia in 1998, Eritreans in Diaspora who have different political opinions to the government of Eritrea have rightly put their differences aside and condemned these shameful sanctions in unison. Most importantly, the very young or second generation Eritreans born and bred in the Diaspora have been reconnected with their country and are becoming actively involved in all aspects and spheres of the movements and nation building. This is why I say these sanctions are a blessing in disguise and that this is a nudge we badly needed at present to strengthen our unity, rejuvenate our struggle and rekindle the flames of passion of our love for our country and people. Justice will prevail God Bless Eritrea |
