Eritreans in the UK celebrated Eritrea's 15th Independence Day with zeal and fervour on Sunday, 28th May 2006. The event featuring a band that travelled from Eritrea for the occasion, UK and Holland based Eritrean artists and children and youth groups, was attended by over 3000
Eritreans.

After the Eritrean Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Ireland, HE Negasi Sengal gave a speech, religion and community leaders were invited to participate in a cake-cutting ceremony. This was accompanied by patriotic song and traditional dance, which was performed by young Eritrean group, Sinit.

Followed by the singing of the national anthem, the band came onto the stage with Helen Meles singing with passion and big smile. The celebration continued until five thirty in the morning filling the air with people's excitement and enjoyment. Helen Adhanom, a young Eritrean student said: "this was the best beal nesanet (Eritrean independence day) in every way."
