Martyrs’ Day Commemoration in Toronto
Eritreans in the Greater Toronto Area commemorated Martyrs’ Day on Friday June 20, 2008. Participants marched in remembrance of our fallen heroes. What makes this day so special is that our Martyrs’ lives on our heart. After a moment of silence and a national anthem song, a speech was presented, from the representative of the Embassy of Eritrea, by Mr.Semere Ghebremariam, Head of the Public and Community De Affairs. Other speeches were presented from religious leaders, Martyrs’ family Sponsorship and Hizbawi Mekete Committee.
Poems were read by all age group. Especially the once read by the very young boys and girls was heart felting. A play was presented by Almaz Teferi and Lu’am Tesfay and a song by Daniel Nebiat.
A moment of silence is not the abdication of responsibility. Remembering our martyrs’ is very easy to do. If we remind ourselves to work hard on what is remaining to be done then, we will be able to shoulder our responsibility .Life is too short but, an hour is like a day, a day is like a month and a month is like a year for someone who needs moral and financial support from us. Let’s act now for yesterday is gone and tomorrow may not be ours. Let’s augment our Martyrs’ trust fund and sponsor a Martyrs’ family.
Eternal Glory to our Martyrs’
